Principal Erica Zigelman extensive experience with The New York City Department of Education dates back to 1979, when she began teaching. The respected educator, tenured as a teacher, instructed fourth grade students at PS 86 and served as a dance teacher at JHS 145/Arturo Toscanini Junior High School. She also acted as Coordinator of Performing Arts Activities/Dance Talent Teacher at CJHS 82, where she worked with fifth through eighth graders. Since 2005, Erica Zigelman has led Middle School 322 as Principal. Listed in the Biltmore Who’s Who of Professionals, she also has generated multiple performance bonuses for school improvement and student achievement.
At New York University, Erica Zigelman earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Master of Arts in Interrelated Arts in Education. She also completed postgraduate courses in educational leadership at Bank Street College of Education and a professional diploma in school district administration at Iona College. The experienced Principal holds permanent certification in New York State as a School District Administrator and in Orchestral Music and Performing Arts Dance: Classical Ballet. In addition, Zigelman maintains certification as a New York State Administrator and Supervisor. Her recognition includes selection as a LEAP Lead Mentor Principal each year since 2010 and selection for the Cohort Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished Principals in 2010. She also received an invitation as one of only 17 administrators nationally to participate in the Exemplary Principals Meeting of The Wallace Foundation.
Principal Zigelman served as a mentor and Adjunct Professor through a collaboration with Mercy College, Community School District 7, and the Teacher Center of the United Federation of Teachers. In this capacity, Erica Zigelman led first-year teaching fellows at middle and elementary schools. Outside of her professional and educational pursuits, Zigelman supports Hillel at Miami University in Ohio, which provides a variety of programs for students, staff, faculty, and members of the community, and Cantor Fitzgerald Charity Day, in memory of 9/11.
